Belle Époque Cushions

Individually designed and handmade Belle Époque cushions

My Belle Époque cushions are inspired by the colours of the Trossach hills in Scotland. They are generally referred to as an area of wooded glens and lochs lying to the east of Ben Lomond. Also home to ‘Hill House’ which is considered to be Charles Rennie Mackintosh’s domestic masterpiece. The Belle Époque was an explosion of optimism and cultural innovation in Paris during the 1890s and 1900s. It was a great time for art and theatre, and they converged to great success at the Theatre de la Renaissance with a collaboration between Sarah Bernhardt and Alphonse Mucha.

Whenever I see these hills I think of the Belle Époque and Art Nouveau period of design. A time of increasing wealth and flourishing arts in Glasgow during the early 20th century allowed city dwellers to roam the Trossachs hills to escape the grim of the city. Each cushion in my Trossach range therefore contains Belle Époque designs that bring this exciting period alive.

I source my fabrics for my Belle Époque cushions from Glasgow. The wool fabric is from woollen mills of Scotland and throughout the British Isles, to ensure quality.

Brighten up your home and allow your Belle Époque cushion to reflect your personality by choosing designs that speak to you. A mixture of sizes and colours will ensure your cushions don’t look out of place. Match your cushions to the colours which already exist in your room. Include varying shades of that tone ranging from light to dark.

In conclusion, whether your cushion is a design statement on your favourite sofa or dressing a bed I hope that you and your home enjoy them.
